About Citizen Schools New Mexico

Citizen Schools launched in New Mexico in 2007 and doubled its scale the following year.  The schools it has partnered with are high-need:  63% qualify for free or reduced price lunch. Citizen Schools is serving more than 250 students and expects to partner with six to eight schools in at least three communitites by 2012.

Citizen Schools is the extended learning provider for Elev8 New Mexico, sponsored by the New Mexico Community Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies at Grant and Wilson middle schools.  Elev8 New Mexico fosters positive youth development and extended learning best practices within school-based health, after-school, summer learning, family support and mentoring programs.

Citizen Schools receives funding from New Mexico Public Education Department's 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant to support programs at De Vargas, Van Buren and Wilson middle schools.
