May/June 2010

Congratulations are in order in different corners of Citizen Schools this month. Congratulations to the 2010 class of Citizen Schools' Teaching Fellows who graduated from Lesley University this month, celebrated by keynote speaker, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Also, read about the 225 Citizen Teachers being awarded the President's Service Award in recognition of their work with Citizen Schools. Catch up with an alumna of our 8GA while she debriefs us on wrapping up a semester at Coastal Studies for Girls. Finally, a huge success is celebrated as Citizen Schools is awarded an increase in its AmeriCorps grant!

April 2010

Citizen Schools proudly announces Fidelity Investments as our lead national partner for Eighth Grade Academy (8GA), playing a key role in expanding and strengthening national programs like "6 degrees of the Bay Area" in California. Citizen Schools CEO Eric Schwarz sits on the panel at the U.S. Senate's hearing for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Join the national movement for education reform - become a Citizen for Citizen Schools. Plus, Citizen Schools is recognized in two recently published books.

March 2010

January 2010

Citizen Schools partners up with The Highland Street Foundation to introduce students to entrepreneurial skills, ventures and opportunities. Members from EMC help students connect digital technology to their everyday lives. From D.C., Congress passes an omnibus bill that will increase funding in education and national service.

December 2009

A new report shows how more learning time means impressive results for students. Meanwhile, students bring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to life at Google headquarters in California for the spectacular WOW! event while Washington pushes for STEM initiative funding.

November 2009

Citizen Schools recognizes alumna Erica Mitchell for being named a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar. Also, the Random Acts of Kindness apprenticeship pays it forward in Boston and beyond. Get ready: WOW!s are coming to a city near YOU! Check out some of the awesome events coming up in regions across the Citizen Schools Nation. In D.C., Race to the Top is pushing forward to help our schools.

October 2009

Citizen Schools apprenticeship, Bootstrap, brings students, math and computer programming together. Genzyme engages Citizen Schools student apprentices in the technological world of karyotypes and chromosome analysis. The Afterschool Alliance releases "America After 3PM" report on the status of how our students spend their day after school.

September 2009

Citizen Schools catches up with an alumna of the program as she starts off her college career at Northeastern University. Also, find out about an exciting new partnership with Cisco and how students are developing twenty-first century skills.
