Center for High Impact Philanthropy Promising Practice

Citizen Schools is listed as a Promising Practice in Pathways to Student Success, a guide written by the Center for High Impact Philanthropy in 2008. Designed to help people produce as much good as possible with the dollars available, the guide proposes criteria for meaningful change to target, activities that lead to that change for at-risk students, and how much it costs to make that change.

2008 Social Capitalist Award

For the fourth time since 2004, Fast Company magazine and the Monitor Group have bestowed their Social Capitalist Award on Citizen Schools for its social impact and organizational effectiveness. Citizen Schools is featured along with 44 other winning organizations in Fast Company's Dec. 2007/Jan. 2008 issue.

Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator for Third Consecutive Year

For three consecutive years, Citizen Schools has been awarded the highest rating of four stars by Charity Navigator, America's premier independent charity evaluator, in successfully managing the finances of our organization in an efficient and effective manner.

The Princeton Review's Best Entry-Level Jobs

The Teaching Fellow and Teaching Associate positions are included among 66 organizations distinguished as "Best Entry Level Jobs" by the Princeton Review.

2005 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship

Awarded by the Skoll Foundation, the Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship support social entrepreneurs whose work has the potential for large-scale influence on critical ch allenges of our time: environmental sustainability, health, tolerance and human rights, institutional responsibility, economic and social equality, peace and security. In addition to financial support, this three-year award facilitates access to a peer network of social entrepreneurs through the Skoll World Forum and other venues.

2003 Nan Bennett Kay Great Friend to Kids Award

Eric Schwarz, President and CEO of Citizen Schools, was presented with the 2003 Nan Bennett Kay Great Friend to Kids award. The award was created to celebrate and sustain Nan's commitment to the children of Boston.

2002 Commonwealth Medal

Citizen Schools was awarded a 2002 Commonwealth Medal from MassINC for achievement in promoting lifelong learning. The award recognizes Citizen Schools for providing educational opportunities outside of school hours.
